Fall/Winter 2021/2022 Trend Forecast

Although summer’s very much in the air, fall is around the corner. Many of the world’s largest fashion houses have already released their fall/winter 2021 collections in early spring of this year. We all know that trends are a result of influence from major fashion brands, that eventually make their way to high street shops. After taking a look at several collections, it seems like the major trends for this fall/winter season will be the following:

Midi Skirts

It appears that we will see a lot of midi skirts popping about this fall season. Midi- length skirts made an appearance in collections by Gucci, Fendi and Jacquemus, among others. If you are pondering whether you would opt for a midi skirt, they are a great option as they can be practical for the colder months, especially if they are made from a knit material. Paired with some tall boots, skirts this length are the perfect piece to elevate a dull fall/winter outfit. Practical and stunning; you can’t go wrong with a midi skirt.

Glittery/Shimmery Pieces

It was surprising to see glittery or shimmery pieces recurring in many of the collections. They stood out as, often, the rest of the pieces would be more muted compared to these statement items. These are, of course, statement pieces, but many of the looks on the runway were done in such a way that it could be subtle enough to wear during the day as well, depending on what you have going on (i.e. given that your plans don’t consist of grocery shopping and lounging on the couch…on second thought, why not!) Glittery, metallic pieces were featured in collections by Celine, Prada and Saint Laurent, among others.

Shoulder Pad Blazers & Coats

The focus here were blazers and coats with an oversized fit and a large shoulder pad, almost reminiscent of the 80s. Shoulder pads on blazers and coats are nothing new, but this seems to be a recurring trend. Dramatic shoulder pads are guaranteed to make a statement. Some of the houses featuring this look for the upcoming fall/winter season were Chanel, Michael Kors, and Celine among others.

Faux Fur

It appears as though we will see a lot of faux fur this fall/winter. Prada, Fendi and Gucci among others all featured fur coats in their collections.

Faux Leather

Faux leather seems like it will be a rather big trend, given the range of pieces featured in many of the collections. From pants, to skirts, to blazers, to jackets and even tops, it appears that faux leather will be everywhere. Faux leather blazers were a big trend last fall/winter, but it doesn’t seem like they’ll be going anywhere. So, if you purchased a faux leather blazer last year, hold on to it! Pieces like these were featured in collections by Hermes, Celine, and Michael Kors among others.
