Hey friends! Welcome back to the blog! With all stores now being open, I am getting the shopping bug more often that I should be. It doesn’t help that the summer collections at all the stores include so many great, visually appealing pieces. One collection that stood out to me, in particular, was the H&M collection. Naturally, I had to swing by there and have a look at the pieces in person, and, let me tell you, I did not leave empty-handed. Keep reading to see what I picked up from H&M and my opinion on the various summer pieces!
Tops
The floral tube top
Don’t walk, RUN, to H&M to grab this top! It was the first thing that popped out at me in the store. I had my eye on it ever since the collection was released a couple of months ago, but it seemed to always be sold out online. To my surprise, there it was, sitting on the rack, on sale! It was marked down to $9.99 CAD! Such a steal! Unfortunately, I was not able to find my exact size, so I grabbed the next size up. Due to the fact that it’s elasticized, I was able to make it work; it does not slip down and sits fairly well. I do think that the correct size would’ve looked better, but it still looks great as is, and for under $10.00, you cannot go wrong. This top definitely is a HIT!

The flouncy floral tank
This is a super-cute, flouncy, floral top. It’s not something I usually go for, but the print and colours stood out to me. It’s cute, it’s light, it’s colourful and it fits well. I think it’s great for the summer, especially for those really hot, humid days. Another cool feature is that the sides tie up, so you can adjust it to fit tighter or looser depending on your preference. This little top is versatile in that it can be paired with a variety of different bottoms, from shorts, to jeans, to miniskirts, or even the matching skirt. Wear it to go for a stroll on the beach, and then pop some heels on and you’re ready to go grab drinks on a patio. This top gets a thumbs up; it’s a HIT!

The sleeveless jersey top
This muscle top is a great basic. It mimics the look of the shoulder pad tops that were really big last summer, but this one is shoulder pad free! This is a great option for gals with broad shoulders like myself, or for gals who are not big fans of shoulder pads in general. This top, being a basic, is super-duper versatile. You can pair it with some trousers for a business-casual look, with jeans for an ultra casual look, with a leather mini-skirt and heels for a night out, or even layered underneath jackets and knits during the fall and winter. I sized up with this top in order to achieve that slightly oversized, effortless fit. It's a HIT!

Bottoms
The twill shorts
I am on the hunt for a pair of light, summer shorts. Currently, I’ve been rocking denim shorts, which are great, but can get a bit heavy and warm on those scorching days. H&M has a great selection of lighter, summer shorts. This particular pair comes in a few different colours. I like the fabric and the feel, however, the fit was slightly off for me. I liked the fit from the waist down, but I would’ve preferred that the waist be tighter. That being said, it is completely elasticized around the waist, the button is an illusion, so it is possible to size down to ensure a snug fit. All in all, if you try these and they fit you well, I think they could be a great option. Personally, I will be returning them and either sizing down, or continuing my hunt for light, summer shorts. These shorts are a MISS.

The floral midi skirt
This skirt was a part of the set with the matching top from above, although it would make a nice piece on its own as well. The fabric is super light, which makes it a nice option for the summer and the flit on the left side gives it a trendy feel. It is nice as part of the set, as already mentioned. It could be worn on its own as well, paired with a different top (perhaps a white, cropped tank), however, personally, I would go for a more muted skirt if I were going for the white tank, midi skirt, sneaker look. Opting for a muted skirt would also leave more room for versatility, something which this particular skirt is lacking. It can only be worn a few ways, during only one season, in only a few, particular situations. Although it’s a cute skirt and looks great as part of the set with the matching top, for me it’s a MISS.

Dress
The ribbed knit dress
This gorgeous knit dress popped out at me in the store. I absolutely love the colour; it’s super on trend! The dress has a certain heaviness to it that makes it feel like it’s a luxurious, expensive piece. There is button detailing on each side, at the bottom, which catches the eye. It is fitted enough to highlight your figure, but not too fitted to the point where it becomes uncomfortable; it just ever so slightly glides along the body. The v-neck cut adds to the overall elegance of the dress. This piece is also super versatile and can be dressed up or down and paired with a variety of different accessories to achieve the look you want. Folks, we’ve got another HIT!

The chunky statement necklace
I’ve been on the hunt for a chunky necklace lately and was having a hard time finding any good pieces. I came across some featured in stores that were valued at $20.00 or more and seemed super flimsy and cheaply produced; they almost had a plastic-y feel and definitely weren’t worth the price they were offered for. This one was only $12.99 and it has weight to it and feels like it is of good quality. This exact necklace is available in either a silver or gold finish. There were a few other designs to choose from in store, including thinner links- still chunky but slightly more wearable and subtler than the super-chunky chain. This one is a HIT!
